BROTHERS Chester and Christopher Cokalion showed they can also act like the Batman-and- Robin tandem on the hardcourt.
Chester fired 29 points and his younger brother scored 19 on top of 11 rebounds as Pilipinas Shell ‘80s trounced Fil-Ann 2009, 79-57, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Tuesday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Class ‘80s found the youngest graduates a tough customer to handle at first, resulting into a closely-fought battle that had seven deadlocks and several lead changes. After surviving the first half with a shaky four-point edge, 33-29, the Cokaliong brothers went on a scoring rampage that set the stage for the Shell-backed squad masterful demolition of Class 2009.
Chester, who also dished out two assists, knocked in three consecutive 3-point bombs sandwiching Christopher’s six straight points in a blistering 17-0 splurge that saw Shell ‘80s leading 50-29, late in the third quarter. Shell ‘80s went on to post their biggest lead of the night at 25 points, 66-41, midway in the last quarter.
Stephen Tan finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists for Shell ‘80s.
In the other game, Ernest Tanting scattered 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals as Dewfoam ‘88 eked out a 45-43 win over Las Vegas KTV-M16 Disco ‘94.
Gregorio Aguilar, Jr. added eight points, six rebounds, five steals and two assists, while man mountain Ricky Up chipped in seven markers on top of 13 rebounds as Class ‘88 evened its record to 2-2. (PR)
