Niños take on 3 PBA squads-A A +A
Thursday, January 31, 2013
ALL roads will lead to the Cebu Coliseum as three PBA teams—Alaska Aces and sister squads Petron Blaze Boosters and Barangay Ginebra Kings—and local commercial heavyweight M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Niños battle for the 2013 Sinulog Cup Basketball tournament title at 5 p.m.
The Niños will open the hostilities against the Aces, while Petron plays Ginebra in
the main game at 7 p.m.
Since the PBA squads are preparing for the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup which is scheduled to open on Feb. 8, the imports will be vital in this tune-up tournament.
Petron’s import is the 6’8” Renaldo Balkman who once played for the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets in the NBA. Ginebra will parade the 6’10” Herbert Hill, who was picked by Utah Jazz in the 2007 draft but instead of the NBA, he ended up playing with the Incheon Elephants of the Korean Basketball League. Alaska’s reinforcement is the 6’9” Robert Dozier, who was drafted by the Miami Heat in 2009 and played for the same team during the NBA Summer League last year before he went to play with Cajasol in the Spanish League.
The Niños, on the other hand, will have the services of Cameroonian Benoit Mbala, who will probably make his final appearance in the local basketball scene after he was formally signed by the De La Salle University Green Archers.
The last time MLKP-Cebu Niños played against PBA squads last September, they failed to win a single game. This time, they vowed to do better.
Tickets are only sold at the Cebu Coliseum are at P50 for general admission, P150 for the upper box, P250 for the lower box, P350 for the stage area and P500 for the reserved courtside seats.
