IT HAS been over seven years since Randy Suico was a world title contender and one of the most promising boxers from the Philippines. After losing his only title bid, followed by an inconsistent performance, Suico’s career has been at a standstill.
At 33 years old, the hard-hitting Cebuano slugger is looking to revive his career, this time with a new team.

Suico has been working with his new trainers Christopher and Eper Tepora at the Omega Boxing Gym since November for yet another career revival.

“Randy is so serious in his training,” Christopher told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday. “I think Randy still has it because he still has the power. The important thing is hard work in training.”

After back-to-back losses in Japan and Australia last year, Suico is up for a new start as he faces journeyman William Jorge on Feb. 8 in Dalaguete City.

Suico, 30-8-1 with 25 knockouts, has lost five of his last eight fights and he needs a win over Jorge, who has not seen action since 2010.

Jorge is 9-13 with two knockouts.

In the main event, Vergilio Silvano (13-2-1, 8 KOs) defends his Philippine Boxing Federation light flyweight title against up-and-comer Louie Arlos (7-1, 2 KOs).

A win over Arlos, whose only loss is a split decision in the hands of unbeaten Rajah Renoel Pael, would be crucial to Silvano’s career. If he does, he is slated to fight for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation light flyweight in April.

In the undercard, unbeaten Jack Tepora (5-0, 3 KOs) is up against Michael Beron (0-1); Richard Rosales (5-1-1, 2 KOs) will slug it out with Rowel Garcia (4-8-1, 1 KO); Charlie Pucdol (3-1, 3 KOs) looks to bounce back against fellow hard-hitter Junie Salogaol (3-1-3, 3 KOs); and Brandon Tavares (1-0, 1 KO) will face off with winless Mark Tubo (0-3).
