DEFENDING champions Mactan Enerzone/Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Blazing Batters marched into the playoffs almost without a hitch.
They topped Group B following a masterful 9-2 fifth-inning regulation victory over Vickings Engineering in the 2013 Sinulog Cup Men’s Open Softball tournament at the Labangon Elementary School grounds last Sunday.
Catcher Jackson Genolaga opened the first inning with a three-run homer that sent baseman Roldan Bacarisas and left fielder Marvin Ngujo to the home plate.
Although Niño Villaver gave the Vickings a run, Enerzone/SCSIT added two more runs courtesy of third baseman Sherwin Tabar and Ngujo at the top of the third. They capped it with four runs from Bacarisas, Tabar, first baseman John Magno and right fielder Abrine Pautan at the top of the fourth to put the game away.
Clyde del Mar scored the final run for the Lagtang-Talisay based Vickings and both teams went scoreless in the next inning, and the game was stopped because of the seven-run margin mercy rule.
Group A was topped by Wirednook following a forfeiture by Boycie squad for its third win, rendering Locan’s 8-1 sixth-inning regulation win over Boyce in the final game of the day meaningless.
