Meanwhile, the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) will start its much-awaited division-wide chess tournament for public schools.
CCSC chairman Edward Hayco told Sun.Star Cebu that everything is ready for the follow-up stage of the event that drew Cebu City another Guinness World Record title for holding the world’s largest chess tournament.

Tournament arbiter Marvin Ruelan said the tournament will start in schools that belong to Districts 1 and 2.

According to Hayco, the Cebu Chess Association (CCA) which is their partner for this project, along with DepEd-Cebu City, will hold a simultaneous tournament in 10 schools, which was their minimum target per weekend.

“We’ll do 10 schools per weekend for 12 weekends, covering 120 schools. Beginners and Novice players are encouraged to join as this is a grassroots program,” Hayco added.

According to Ruelan, the schools which will have their tournaments today includes the Abellana National School, City Central School, Regino Mercado and the schools of Baranggay Mabolo, Tejero, Carreta, Hipodromo, Banilad, Bo. Luz and Zapatera.

After all the schools have their tournaments, Ruelan said they will take the tournament to a higher level by pitting the winners against each other.
