THE quarterfinalists of the Players 8 division of the Aboitiz Football Cup have been identified following the last day of eliminations yesterday at the Aboitiz Football Field.
Top teams in their brackets—Bright Minds Active Learning Village (BMALV), Don Bosco Technical Center-3 and DBTC-4—finished strong yesterday to cement their slots to the quarters.
BMALV topped Bracket A with 12 points. It closed the elimination round with a 2-1 squeaker over Paref Springdale, behind the goals of James Anoos and Ariant Antoyan.
Bracket C leader DBTC-3 edged Warshockz, 1-0, while Bracket D top team DBTC-4 blanked Bright Academy, 12-0.
The top-ranked teams in the six brackets will advance to the next round. The second and third best teams will complete the list.
The other qualifiers were Sinulog Festival Cup champion Lahug in Bracket B, USC-BED in Bracket E and Sacred Heart School - Ateneo de Cebu in Bracket F.
Cebu International School made the cut as the second best team, while Hijas was tied with Bright Academy, Consolacion, VEPS and DBTC-C in nine points but was ahead in goal difference.
The quarterfinal round will be on Feb. 23. It will be delayed for a week to give way to the Thirsty Cup Festival this coming weekend.
Match-ups will be between BMALV and Hijas, Lahug and CIS, DBTC-3 and SHS-AdC and DBTC-4 and USC-BED.
In the Players 10, USC-BED and CIS both silenced their opponents CIE-B and SRFC, 2-0. Bright Academy routed Holy Infant, 4-1, while SHS-AdC-B ousted DBTC-2, 3-0.
The match between Canduman and SHS-AdC in the Boys 12 resulted to a scoreless draw, while VEPS demolished CIE, 10-0.
Jesussean Gerobiese lifted USC as they claim the lead in the Girls 17 after beating SHS-AdC, 1-0.
In the Boys 14, ANS walloped CIE, 10-0, and Springdale-B won against Ateneo-B, 3-1.
ANS also secured its slot to the semifinals of the Boys 17 division after demolishing SHS-AdC-B, 12-0, while CIS also did the same damage to DB Razkals, 12-0. Springdale defaulted its match against SHS-AdC.
Football action continues today with the 38-above match between CQCU against Hiroshi and men's open matches between Toledo Harumi and DBU-FC-A, Bro National and DB Magone and Hiroshi and USJR-Alumni.
