THE University of San Carlos Ladies team is off to a good start after they collared the Girls 19 title for the fourth consecutive year last night in the first day of the Thirsty Football Cup at Cebu City Sports Center.
The team, which split into two squads this year, dominated the Girls 19 category, which used the league type format.
USC Green led the group with 10 points from three wins and a draw while USC White finished as runner-up with eight points after two wins and two draws. USC Green got its lone draw against USC white.
USC Green beat Primum FC, 1-0, Silliman University, 2-1, and San Roque Football Club, 2-1. Maritoni Trebol earned the Most Valuable Player Award.
SRFC ended in third place with 3 points from three draws and one loss while SU and Primum shared the bottom spot with two points each from two draws and two losses.
Coach Gary Panagsagan said that he decided to split the 25 players to two teams not based on the skills but based on positions so the two teams are still equally strong.
The USC team will also be playing in the Girls 17 and women’s open titles, where they are also the defending champion.
They will be facing age group powerhouse Ateneo de Davao in both the Girls 17 and women’s open title.
