Mactan, CCC to host PAL men’s regular

TRADITIONAL championship courses Cebu Country Club (CCC) and Mactan Island Country Club, which both place a premium on length and precision, will play hosts to regular men’s action in the 66th Philippine Airlines Interclub Golf Tournament on Feb. 26 to March 2 in Cebu.
Defending champion CCC is expected to take advantage of its familiarity with its home course in its bid to win the event for the second straight year and join some of the tournament’s elite teams of all time.
The host squad, which won the title over Del Monte in Davao last year, is one of 78 teams competing in the regular Interclub tournament.
Although the home course advantage for Cebu team is a given, the course is also considered friendly to the rest of the field. PR
For this tournament, the Cebu Country Club course will play to a par-72, compared to the usual par-71 with one par-5 made a par-4.
“We want to give the best possible conditions, the fairest course possible and the nicest greens they ever putt on,” CCC team manager Jeric Hechanova said.“They have to hit the fairways, though, because it would be tough to hit the greens from the roughs.”
Things will get more challenging however at the military-operated Mactan course, a puzzle that might decide the winner.
Unlike the well-manicured CCC, the par-72 Mactan layout has very slow greens and relatively harder fairways, making it difficult to attack the pins and for players to score low. (PR)
