CEBU Country Club (CCC) snatched the lead from Manila Golf in the Founders Division after duplicating its first day score of 141 in the second round of the 26th Philippine Airlines (PAL) Seniors Interclub Golf Tournament at the Club Filipino Inc. course in Danao.

CCC, which had a slow start after settling for fourth in the first round, banked on Montito Garcia’s solid 49 points in the second day. Lor Alaan and Koichi Horii also contributed 46 each for their two-day score of 282.

“I believe we have done excellently, we have scored well. We hope to maintain and even improve our game tomorrow,” CCC team captain Ed Alegrado said.

CCC will field Nonoy Tirol, Kim Kwang Seok, Lor Ala-an and Rey Gibbs in the third day, still at Club Filipino.

Same lineup

Co-host Alta Vista Golf and Country Club (AVGCC) also vaulted two places from fourth to second place after scoring 136 yesterday.

Team captain Hospicio Razon and Masahisa Kawami chipped in 48 each while Victor Gocela had 40 points for a two-day total of 278.

AVGCC will field the same lineup today.

Day One leader Manila Golf, which had 146 in the opening round, struggled with 127 points in the second day to stumble to third place with 273.

In the championship round, Pueblo De Oro retained their lead in after scoring 132 points. Victor Yuvallos had 47, while Clifford Celdran scored 45.

Ed Yap added 40 for the team’s tally of 285, just three points ahead of second placer Luista.

Modest target

“I had a good round today,” said Yuvallos, who had a birdie in the 17th hole.

“At first, we were only aiming for a second overall finish in the championship division but yesterday, we just played well,” said Celdran, who has been CCC general manager for four years before retiring last year.

Luisita shot 135 points in the second round behind Pepito Iñigo’s 48, Francis Gaston’s 46 and Seve Rozas Chua’s 42 for second place in the four-round tournament at 282 points.

Defending champion Canlubang is at third place with 280 after yesterday’s 135. Luigi Yulo and Dave Hernandez had 46 each.

Tony Olives contributed 43 for Canlubang.
