FINALLY, after three attempts, Mary Joy Tabal seized this year’s women 21K title after crossing the finish line in 1:24:47 of the third SM 2 SM Run, which attracted over 4,000 runners yesterday at the SM City Cebu North Wing.

Tabal was followed by Jennelyn Nobleza of Silay City, Negros Occidental, clocking 1:30.59 for the second place and Kenyan runner Patrober Kemboi finished in third place with 1:41.08.

“My prayers were answered. In the last two SM2SM runs, I’ve only placed second,” said Tabal. She, however, failed to beat her personal record of 1:21, which she made in the Cebu Marathon.

In the men’s 21K, Ken-yan runners Willy Rotich (1:10) and Eliud Kering (1:12.38) took the top two spots. Local runner Jason Agravante came in third with 1:28.

In the 21K couples division, triathletes Noy and Amale Jopson crossed the finish line in 1:45.55 followed by Geoffrey and Leonora Villamor in 1:54.13.

Fernando and Wilma Lugay settled for third place in 1:55.41.

In the men’s 12K, Ken-yan runners took the top three spots.

Philip Ronoh clocked 39:39 for the victory. Francis Kakui came in second with a time of 40:30 and Lelei Eliud came in at third with 42:45.

Cebu’s Lovely Andrin took the 12K women’s title after crossing the finish line in 51:35.00. Kenyan Kisha Mae Delechos finished at second place with 56:18. Christy Sevilleno finished third in 56:22.

The 12K couples title went to Ma. Fe and Rodrigo Ernane after clocking 1:04.30 followed by Rap and Liz Cabanero with 1:04.50 for second, while finishing third were Donovan and Doreen Jadines with 1:05.27.

Kenyan Joel Kembol and Cebu’s Cherry Andrin took the men and women’s 6K titles, respectively.

Kembol clocked 18:27.67 followed by Isaac Simat with 18:57.69 for second, and Joebert Carolino with 19:13.21 for third.

Cherry Andrin topped the women’s division in 24:45.09. She was followed by sister Jhean Andrin with 25:23.40 and Lynle Cardenas for third in 24:39.50.

According to SM corporate communication manager RJ Leduna, they were overwhelmed with this year’s turnout.

“We received several good feedbacks from the runners and we are happy about it.”
