THE Lite Shipping-backed Batch 2001 survived the 24-point output of former Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) two-time MVP Enrico Llanto to boot out Division 2 top-seed Yayoy’s Grill-backed Batch 2002, and earned a thrilling 67-66 win in the semifinal round of the University of San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (USCBHABA) Christmas League held at the SHS-AdC Old Campus gym on Gen. Maxilom Ave.
Batch 2002 looked headed for the finals when Llanto slowly ate up the interior defense of the older batch.
However, Llanto’s lonesome effort started to take its toll in the final going and Batch 2001 rode on the heroics of AJ San Juan and the able backing of Campos.
Lite Shipping earlier eliminated third seed Lux following a 62-56 win in the quarterfinal round.
Lite Shipping will be tested as they play No. 2 seed Gold Funds 2011 in the Division 2 finals, slated on March 10 at the Cebu Coliseum.
Meanwhile, B95 scored a scary 51-49 win over Einstein School for Kids ’86, while RMI Cockpit Arena ‘93 proved too good for Coach ‘84 following a 58-46 win in Division 1 quarterfinal round.
However, it will be a tall order for B95 as it faces top seed Lou Regidor-led JP Steelwood, 81-85, next, while Batch ’93 is up against No. 2 Dindo Sauza-led Café Laguna ‘88 in the semifinals.
The merger team of Batch 81-85 and Batch 88 secured the automatic semifinal spots after topping the elimination round.
