An Australia-based Japanese master will pay a visit to Cebu next week to conduct a two-day Aikido session at the at the Sacred Heart Aikido Center of Cebu.
Saburo Takayasu (Shihan, 7th Dan Aikikai) will conduct sessions on March 22 to 24.
Benson Rafanan (Sensei, 5th Dan Aikikai) said Takayasu will be teaching a special training syllabus called “Takemusu Aiki,” which was taught by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido.
Rafanan added that “Takemusu Aiki” was created by Ueshiba in his private dojo in Iwama, Japan 10 years after World War II. It was during those years when Ueshiba developed the foundations of the Iwama-style Aikido, which was passed on to one of his oldest students, Morihiro Saito—Takayasu’s teacher.
Takayasu is currently the chief instructor of the Takemusu Aiki Association Inc. in Australia.
Rafanan said that all interested aikidokas and practitioners of similar arts can attend the sessions. Outsiders are required to pay the P160 mat fee.
Also, Rafanan announced that they will formally open their summer classes on April 1 to May 31.
