THE Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) has taken its chess development program a notch higher as the Chess For Fun tournament has moved to the inter-district phase.
Cebu Chess Association’s (CCA) chief arbiter FA Marvin Ruelan told Sun.Star Cebu that they are now moving to the second phase of the tournament after completing four weekends of in school tournaments.
The district wide-tournaments allows every player who participated in the in-school competition to join.
“It is here where we get the top finishers to qualify for the inter-district tournament,” Ruelan said.
CCA has spotted a lot of potential players among the public school players.
“At this stage, we can already identify those who have potential. There are a lot. It would be a waste of talent if we could not help this kids hone their skills,” Ruelan said.
The top 10 players from each school district will advance to the inter-district tournament.
“We can expect in five years time, we will have a very strong field of competitors not just from the private schools but in public schools as well,” Reulan said.
