THE Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles once again soared high after beating, yet again, football archrival Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves in another championship match.

This time, SHS-AdC outclassed DBTC in the biggest football tournament in Cebu City, the Aboitiz Football Cup.

SHS-AdC snagged the Boys-17 crown following a close 1-0 victory over DBTC yesterday at the Aboitiz Football pitch.

"We were complacent. This is our sixth time beating them. We beat them even if we didn't have enough practice. It was examinations week," Lito Ramos told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday after the match. "We had a hard time but we played defense. It was a good game."

Miguel Kwan, who was named best halfback, scored the lone goal of the game after finding the net in the 30th minute from a penalty kick.

DBTC had ample chance to equalize but they were just plain unlucky and just couldn't seem to hit the mark.

SHS-AdC defeated Don Bosco in the secondary division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. football tournament last year.

After winning the Boys-17 division of the Aboitiz Football Cup, the Magis Eagles are ready for another rivalry battle with the Greywolves in the next major tournament.

"It's our first time to win in this division in the Aboitiz tournament. We will be better than them in the our next encounter because the core of the team is still the same in the next season," said Ramos, who was up against his brother, DBTC coach Glen Ramos.

SHS-AdC's lady counterparts weren't as fortunate after bowing down to University of San Carlos (USC), 4-0, in the Girls-17 championship match.

MVP Mailyn Lozano scored a hattrick for USC with goals from the fifth, 34th and 70th minutes. Jesusseane Gerobiesse also added a goal in the 27th minute.

USC's Sandy Miyagi was named the best goalkeeper after a clean sheet, Elisa Juezon the best halfback, Gayle Colina the best defender and Janice Paglinawan the was given the Golden Boot.

Paref-Springdale edged out rival DBTC-2, 3-2, to win the Boys-14 title; Giuseppe FC squeaked past DBTC-1, 2-1, for the Boys-12 crown; DBTC-1 beat Canduman, 3-2, in the PLayers-10 finals; and DBTC-3 crushed Bright Academy-A, 3-0, in the Player-8 championship match.
