SOUTHWESTERN University Cobras’ Game 5 hero John Pajantoy scored 16 of his 20 points in the final quarter to power Team Olkas to an 80-75 win over Ilihan at the start of the 1st Lou Ornopia Basketball Tournament last weekend in Calambua, San Remigio, north of Cebu.
Jei Dablo scored the game-high 36 points, but it was Pajantoy who provided the endgame spark that propelled Olkas to victory.
Pajantoy is best remembered as coach Raul Alcoseba’s surprise hero in SWU’s winning
the Cesafi collegiate championship last year against the powerhouse UV Green Lancers in an epic best-of-five series.
Before Pajantoy took matters into his own hands, Dablo took charge of Olkas’ offensive chores, scoring 11 in a 19-12 run that gave them a four-point headway at halftime, 35-31.
However, Ilihan cagers fought back hard until the closing minutes of the game, when Pajantoy doused cold water on the opponent’s red hot offensives.
Ronald Romagos topscored for Ilihan with 31 points.
In the opening game, Big Boss of San Miguel proved too much for Lamac Niños earning a 73-51 victory.
The victory did not come easy, though, as San Miguel was trailing in the first quarter before taking total control of the game following a 22-14 blast in the second period.
They were unstoppable as the Lamac Boys crumbled to pieces after San Miguel wrapped the game with a 37-22 blast.
The tournament is one of the featured events of Calambua’s annual fiesta celebration in honor of its patron San Vicente Ferrer on April 13.
The tournament offers a total of P30,000 in cash prizes , and is supervised by commissioner Gumersindo Jubay, Jr., while the tournament officials are Rabbi Aranduga, Dondon Ferolino and Shonnel Patalinghug.
