DEFENDING champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) advanced to the semifinals of the Milo Little Olympics secondary division after an 8-0 rout of the Maria Montessori International School at the Cebu City Sports Center.
And standing in the way of SHS-AdC’s attempt for back-to-back titles is one of the top teams in the division, ANS-Pomeroy.
Despite the easy win, SHS-AdC head coach Lito Ramos wasn’t pleased because he felt the team could have done better.
However, against ANS-Pomeroy, the 2009 champion, Ramos feels his team has the edge.
“They are bigger but we have the advantage in speed and skills. We are prepared for our title defense,” Ramos told Sun.Star Cebu. “We will speed the game up because that is our advantage.”
Miguel Kwan, who scored a hat trick, drew first blood in the fifth minute mark. Jose Marie Kwan added another goal in ninth.
MMIS’s woes got worse when Jupert Remollo, Paolo Lopez and Karlo Villamor scored in one each in a four-minute span. Miguel got his second goal in the 20th for a comfortable 6-0 lead at halftime.
Marcus Cunamon opened the second half with a goal in the 37th minute, Kintaro Miyagi scored in the 53rd minute with a volley and Miguel completed his hat trick in the 63rd.
ANS-Pomeroy earlier demolished Bright Academy 9-0.
Shane Sarmiento scored four goals, Rico Romeo added two, while Simo Quiamjot and Kenneth Juesan chipped in a goal apiece.
Last year’s runner-up Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) had an early exit from the annual tournament after an upset by Lilo-an National High School (LNHS), 5-4, in a shootout.
LNHS will face Paref-Springdale next week.
Paref-Springdale earned a semifinal ticket after a 3-0 rout of University of San Carlos-BED.
