Cobras take on UC-A A +A
Monday, August 19, 2013
DEFENDING champions Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras will gun for their fourth victory as they play the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in the main game of the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament double-header at the Cebu Coliseum tonight.
The SWU-UC game is at 6:45 p.m. after the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens and Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) game at 5 p.m.
The Webmasters, who are still feeling the sting of two consecutive losses, will be in for a tough day as SWU has a superior line-up and deeper bench. The Webmasters, who won the title with June Mar Fajardo, need to be aggressive and tougher in defense to pull the rug from under the Cobras.
After sweeping aside their toughest rival in the University of the Visayas Green Lancers last Saturday, the Cobras are now cruising to the no.1 spot, which would entitle them an outright semifinal round slot.
UC, one of the four teams which chose to play with a solid all-Filipino squad, is still looking for the right combination that could give them the victory.
Coach Roehl Gomez is sure to egg his veterans to do more than their usual games and will be banking on shooter Kim Gomez, wingman Jan Auditor and new additions Johnny Saguisag, Kenneth Niones, Edward Espiritu and Noel Villanueva to give the Cobras a good fight.
Meanwhile, CIT-U will try to hand DBTC another frustrating game.
The Wildkittens, who are having a roller-coaster season, regained their winning ways last Sunday with an 84-75 win over the UC Baby Webmasters.
The Don Bosco Greywolves, on the other hand, are still winless after four games.
