Demecillo hands Escaner 1st loss-A A +A

FOUR months after his first career defeat, Marco Demecillo bounced back well with a unanimous decision over erstwhile unbeaten Giovanni Escaner last Saturday night at the Dipolog Sports Complex in Dipolog City.
The 23-year-old hard-hitter got the nod of all three judges with scores of 116-114, 117-116 and 115-113.
Demecillo, who trains at the RWS Gym in Cebu City, retained his RP super bantamweight belt with the win and improved to 19-1-1 with 14 knockouts.
Demecillo suffered his first career defeat in Davao City last April. He was outclassed by 24-year-old unbeaten prospect Arthur Villanueva via a unanimous decision.
The 23-year-old Escaner suffered his first career defeat and dropped to 10-1 with six knockouts.
In a battle of battle-scarred veterans, Gadwin Tubigon (9-7-2, 4 KOs) beat Donriel Marcos (10-21, 1 KO) in the main supporting bout.
In the undercard, Cebuano Anthony Sabalde (7-3, 4 KOs) knocked out Jeffrey Jimenez (5-17-2, 4 KOs) in the second round; Kenny Demecillo (5-1-1, 3 KOs) scored a sixth round technical knockout over Edward Camion (1-2-1, 1 KO); Carlo Demecillo (3-1, 1 KO) demolished Juanito Tumugsok (2-13-1, 1 KO) in the third round; and Melmark Dignos (1-0) had a successful ring debut with a unanimous decision over fellow newcomer Bryan Capangpangan (0-1).
