‘GPC belt will stay in Cebu’-A A +A
Thursday, August 22, 2013
THE Ground and Pound Championship (GPC) heavyweight belt won’t leave Cebu City. That is what Cebu-based British warrior Cris Thompson-Brooks promised yesterday.
“I just laughed after I read the news that he (Lloyd Abucayan) is coming here to destroy me,” said Thompson-Brooks. “He is not going to take that belt because it’s not leaving Cebu.”
Thompson-Brooks faces Lloyd Abucayan for the vacant GPC heavyweight strap in the main event of Ground and Pound 7 – “Resolution” at the Cebu Coliseum.
Abucayan, a decorated wrestler, recently said that he has the best team, which is the Beefit Python’s Pit of Davao City. Thompson-Brooks begs to differ.
“Yaw-Yan is the best team. It’s not true that he has the best team,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kru Robert Serdone is looking at bringing back the GPC lightweight belt back to Cebu as he looks to dethrone current champion Lorde Rey Yamit in one of the main supporting bouts.
“I don’t like to talk much. I want to show it inside the ring. But I will do my best that this fight won’t reach to a decision,” he said.
Serdone is a veteran kickboxer from the Redneos Iron Gladiator MMA Gym in Talisay City, while Yamit is an MMA veteran, who has fought some of the elite in his division.
Unbeaten Soma kickboxing club standout James Serenio, on the other hand, takes on one of the toughest challenges in his career as he takes on submission specialist Victor Torre for the vacant GPC flyweight belt.
“I idolize Torre but I see that I’m better in striking and my ground game is decent. I really believe that I will win this belt,” he said.
Tickets for the MMA show are pegged at P200 for the upperbox seats, P400 for the lowerbox section, P750 for the ringside and P1,500 for VIP seats.
