REIGNING SBP champions University of San Carlos (USC) went through the elimination round uncontested after sweeping the slate with a 46-21 beating over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in the Milo Best SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament 2013 Cebu Provincial Finals the other day.
USC won all of their five games in elimination round and is in great position for possible back-to-back titles.
It was smooth sailing for the Baby Warriors the whole game. USC led by 12 at the end of the first quarter, 17-5. The lead slowly ballooned every quarter, 25-11 at halftime and 35-16 at the end of the third. ZJ Enriquez poured out 16 points for USC.
Cebu Eastern College (CEC) thrashed University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 64-23; while University of the Visayas (UV) beat Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), 40-30.
Defending Passerelle division titleholders UV remained at the top of the division ladder after a 49-38 victory over USC in a rematch of last year’s finals.
USC started fast and took a 12-9 lead at the end of the first. However, UV held USC to just two points in the following quarter to take a 17-14 lead at halftime. Orlan Wamar carried UV’s offensive load in the third, scoring eight of the team’s 12 points in the quarter, for a 29-23 advantage. UV started a 7-3 run at the start of the fourth for a double digit 37-26 lead. USC, however, would trim down the lead to six twice but Wamar rose up to the occasion again and clutch shots and free throws.
