ACCORDING to an assessment by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), the Cobra 70.3 Ironman Philippines in Lapu-Lapu City was the second-best in terms of participant satisfication worldwide.
Sunrise Events Inc. (SEI) project director Princess Galura said that based on the WTC survey among the more than 2,000 participants of the race, the Philippines got 97.6 percent rating.
Galura also said SEI President Wilfred Steven Uytengsu is challenging the group to hit the no. 1 mark by next year’s hosting.
“Uytengsu said that it’s not good enough, so we will aim for no. 1,” Galura said.
The Mont-Tremblant 70.3 race in the mountains of Quebec, Canada got the No. 1 rank.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza is elated over the assessment and congratulated all Oponganons for putting their best foot forward.
“You indeed rolled out the red carpet for them. Your patience, cooperation and support made this year’s hosting ultra-memorable to the participants. To the 25,000 Department of Education (Dep-Ed) students who lined up along the race route and braved the inclement weather, the Mangal cheerers who camped out, the barangays who brought their colorful vintas amidst the strong winds, the clean and green group, the CTMS, police, health, city veterinary, DepEd teachers, peace keeping volunteers, my congratulations to all of you,” said Radaza in a press statement.
Radaza added that they have set the bar higher this year and aim to outdo themselves in the 2014 hosting.
Galura thinks one of the things that went against Lapu-Lapu City was the road condition and hopes this will be given attention in the 2014 hosting.
“I don’t know how Mont-Tremblant scored but we scored 97.6. The one we did not do very well in was the road conditions,” Galura said.
Galura said that they will be having their first committee meeting next month to address the concerns and together they hope to secure the number one spot in 2014.
