SOME 2,000 participants joined the 5K Run for Jack, a run for a cause for former Cebu City councilor Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The run, which was organized by the Cebu City Sports Commission, was led by Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama along with Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, the city councilors and officers and members of the Kapisanan ng Broadcaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).
“The fund-raising activity was very successful despite the short preparation time. We were able to raise P200,000 for Jack,” said Councilor Richie Osmeña.
Before former councilor Jakosalem became chairman of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom), he was also a strong supporter for the development of local sports in Cebu.
Jakosalem is still recuperating after undergoing surgery last February and his wife, Sharon Yap-Jakosalem said he is already improving.
“My husband is in his recovery period and he is already responding. He nods, makes signs and says a few words. He can sit down but still needs assistance when he wants to walk. Hopefully, he is on the way to perfect recovery,” said Sharon.
Sharon was overwhelmed with the crowd that showed up during the run for a cause and felt the love of the Cebuanos for her husband.
“I am very proud and thankful for the success of the event. I’ve never expected the crowd that supported the Run for Jack. I would like to thank the people, especially Councilor Osmeña and the city councilors and the Cebu City Sports Commission, headed by Edward Hayco, for holding a run like this for Jack,” said Sharon. “I am overwhelmed, they didn’t forget when Jack served Cebu and the good deeds he did for the Cebuanos.”
Sharon also said that last Friday, she attended a fund-raising event—“Back for Jack”—at the Outpost. It was spearheaded by Y101 former DJs Mike Solon and Chad Songalia. It also featured the Y101 crew from past to present.
“A lot of people came as well during the concert and the crowd was so overwhelming,” said Sharon.
