Wednesday, September 4, 2013
MARK Acub will again trade leathers with Giovani Rota as they headline the latest installment of Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing on Sept. 14 in Iloilo City.
Acub easily demolished Rota in their first meeting in 2011. Acub dropped Rota three times before the fight was stopped with five seconds left in the opening round.
The 23-year-old Acub is off one of his most difficult fight, a majority decision win over Rene Bestudio last June.
Rota is looking for redemption after the quick stoppage loss and is also attempting to bounce back from a first round technical knockout defeat in the hands of former World
Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific super featherweight champion Rey Labao.
Acub is 12-0 with nine knockouts, while the 25-year-old Rota is 7-4 with four knockouts.
In the undercard, Albert Villacampa (14-6-1, 3 KOs) stands toe to toe against Ryan Bongcawil (7-6-5, 3 KOs); Lito Dante (5-3-3, 2 KOs) faces off with Rodante Suacasa (1-5-2, 1 KO); Bryan Lobitania (5-0-2, 4 KOs) locks horns with Ivor Lastrilla (6-2-1, 3 KOs); Elmo Traya (1-1, 1 KO) takes on John Rey Lorico (2-3); and former amateur standout Vic Saludar (1-0, 1 KO) slugs it out with Camilo Ret Seneres (0-1).
