Warriors rout Jaguars to clench 3rd spot-A A +A
Wednesday, September 4, 2013
THE University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors grabbed the third spot in the classification round of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Incorporated (Cesafi) after routing the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in their match, 80-26, Tuesday evening at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Warriors unleashed their superb shooting and ran their plays in the opening quarter tallying 17 points against 4 from the Jaguars.
Cameroonian imports Ahmed Salihou and Barry Amin of USC proved to be too much to handle for the Jaguars in the defense department.
Caezar Ian Ortega and rookie Victor Rabat were also unstoppable from beyond the arc with Rabat nailing five treys throughout the game.
The Jaguars adjusted their play by taking mid and long-range shots to compensate for their poor post up plays. By the end of the 1st half, the Jaguars were able to cut the lead to only 10 points, 33-23. That was the closest they could get from the raging Warriors.
Things went further downhill for the Jaguars in the 3rd and 4th quarters as they were unable to break the Warriors’ lead courtesy of Rabat’s three-point shots and the domination of the Cameroonians in the paint.
The USC Warriors were also relentless in their defense with Salihou in the forefront.
The Warriors, who also have a twice-to-beat advantage, will again face the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in the Quarter Finals on Friday.
Last Saturday, two players from USC and one from UC were suspended for one game after figuring in a brawl in their crucial match. USC got away with the win, 67-64.
