THE Cebu City Sports Commission is zeroing in on another gargantuan grassroots sports development program which they believe would be a hit once it takes off.
CCSC is now looking to hold a city-wide inter-school table tennis tournament which is expected to start in December.
“We are also pushing for the barangay table tennis competition once every three months. We already distributed table tennis tables and equipment to public schools and those schools will be our venue for the competitions,” said CCSC chairman Edward Hayco.
CCSC has tasked University of Cebu table tennis coach and the regional president and Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (Tatap) board of trustee Jessica Honoridez to spearhead the program.
“We put Jessica (Honoridez) as the project director of this event since she is the right person for this undertaking,” Hayco added.
Honoridez for her part is making sure everything will run smoothly once the the event starts rolling.
“I’m checking the calendar of activities of the kids first so that there will be no more conflict. Secondly, I need to coordinate with the Department of Education since our target is the elementary level from the public school,” Honoridez told Sun.Star Cebu.
The schools that have received the tables from CCSC are Hipodromo Elementary School, Mabolo ES, Tejero ES, Zapatera ES and Bo. Luz for the North district while Mambaling ES, Labangon ES, Punta Princesa ES, Guadalupe ES, Inayawan ES and San Nicolas ES for the south district.
Expected to receive their equipment are City Central School, Lahug ES, Talamban ES, Don Vicente Rama ES and Pardo Central ES.
These schools are what DepEd Cebu City and CCSC identified as mother schools, where most events in each district would be held.
