Milo Marathon sets early deadline-A A +A

THE Cebu qualifying race of the 37th Milo National Marathon Finals will strictly implement its Sept. 10 deadline in accepting registration for the run set on Sept.22 at the Cebu City Sports Center.
According to Cebu organizer Ricky Ballesteros, they will follow they will strictly no longer accept registrations after Sept.10. He said this will give them time to compose themselves and make the necessary preparations for the race.
As of now, the race already attracted over 15,000 participants and it aims to hit 25,000 before the scheduled deadline.
The race features a men’s and women’s 21K run, 10K, 5K and 3K distance run and all of the categories are still open.
“So far, we have already received 15,000 registrants. We are still accepting registrations in all categories. We want to implement the deadline before sa race because we want to completely encode all entries before race day,” said Ballesteros.
One of the sidelights of the race will be the cheer dance competition. This year, not only will they be awarding the school’s biggest delegation but the company with the biggest delegation but will only be given to the team that has the most number finishers.
They also award the fastest group.
Meanwhile, with the invaluable support of Milo Marathon runners and partners, the Help Give Shoes advocacy, a program initiated in 2010, will continue this year.
A total of 500 pairs of running shoes will be given to runners and athletes of Don Sergio National High School in Guadalupe, San Nicolas Elementary School, Marigondon National High School and Pusok Elementary School in Lapu-Lapu City, Simeon Ayuda Elementary School in the municipality of Liloan.
“This is a gift from the runners to these kids because part of the registration fees
will go to the 500 pairs of running shoes,” said Ballesteros.
Those who will qualify in the Cebu leg will race in the 37th Milo Marathon National Finals on Dec. 8 at the SM Mall of Asia grounds. This year’s Milo Marathon King and Queen will be given an opportunity to compete in the 2014 Paris Marathon in April 2014.
