Ateneo, DBTC end match in 1-1 draw-A A +A

DEFENDING champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and last year’s runner-up Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) affirmed that they are equally as powerful this season after their rematch in the secondary division of the Cebu School’s Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) ended in a 1-1 draw yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Complex football pitch.
In their previous meeting in the Cesafi tournament, SHS-AdC got the better of DBTC and beat them, 4-1, to claim the 2012 crown. This time, it was a different story as SHS-AdC and DBTC settled to a 1-1 draw.
DBTC took the lead early on with a goal by Paul Cobero in the 22nd minute. The equalizer came in the second half as Jose Mari Kwan struck in the 78th.
The University of San Carlos (USC) also drew with University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 1-1, in the other secondary division match.
DBTC still has a slight grip at the No. 1 spot with seven points and is just ahead of SHS-AdC, which also has seven points, on goal difference.
USC rose up to the top of the tertiary division after another win yesterday.
USC clinched back-to-back victories after beating University of the Visayas (UV), 3-1.
UV drew first blood with a goal by John Michael Gomora in the sixth minute.
USC answered with John Tumulad hitting the back of the net in the 31st minute.
Karl Arcenas, who scored the lone goal in USC’s razor-thin win over University of Cebu (UC) last Saturday, carried the team on his shoulders in the second half hitting the target in the 60th and converting a penalty shot in five minutes of injury time.
The University In other tertiary division matches, defending champions USJ-R settled with a scoreless draw with UC; while University of Southern Philippines Foundation crushed newcomer Don Bosco College, 6-0.
USC is the tertiary division leader with six points, followed by USJ-R with four, USPF with three points, UV with also three points, UC with a point and DBC at the bottom with no points.
