NORTHERN Conference heavyweights Aegis Vipers and defending champions Stream Ingenyouity dropped bombs over its separate opponents to end their elimination round campaign in the 2013 CSCC E-League Basketball Tournament held at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym last Sunday.
Stream used a wicked 21-7 blitz in the third period to take down the hard fighting Eperformax Reds, 73-59, while Aegis went full throttle in the final half to score a 64-point win over the struggling Executive Boutique, 106-42.
After an evenly fought first quarter, Stream slowly asserted its dominance by outscoring Eperformax, 22-14, to build a 42-34 lead at the half.
However, the worst was yet to come for the Reds whose defense were caught napping in the third period, resulting to the Ingenyouity’s commanding 63-41 lead entering the final period.
Eperformax attempted a comeback, but a 21-point lead was a mountain to climb as they yield its fourth setback in nine games.
Sylvester Millevo topscored for Stream with 18 points, Joselito Aranda added 14, John Arriesgado made 11 and Angelo Lucero contributed 10.
John Loon scored 18, but was the lone Eperformax player to score in double digit.
Meanwhile, Gestoni Santos kept Executive Boutique abreast with the Vipers especially in the first quarter when the Lycans were just within 14-21.
But as Aegis started to make runs, the lowly Lycans slowly wilted as they failed to come up with answers on the last two quarters where the Vipers gobbled their defense with a 67-16 blast.
Kevin Navaja topscored lead Aegis scorers with 19 points, Ryan Veloso and Vincent Armamento had 12 points each and James Navaja finished with 10, while Santos scored the game-high 21 points and Rex Barrientos added 11 as Executive Boutique suffered another defeat.
The victory was Stream’s and Aegis’ ninth in 10 games to share the top spot in their conference, but Ingenyouity’s 73-71 over the Vipers last Aug. 25 gave the defending champions the No. 1 slot into the quarterfinal round.
