THE Cebu Dribblers, a collection of former college basketball players, barely survived the All-Star squad of the CSCC E-League but managed a 77-70 win in the All-Star Game held at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym last Sunday.
The game was closely fought for three quarters before the Dribblers came up with a huge fourth quarter performance to win the game.
Tied after the first quarter, Cebu Dribblers made a strong second quarter blast to lead 37-30 after the first half.
However, E-League All Stars bounced back hard behind the efforts of Aegis Vipers’ Ryan Veloso to even the game at 53-all at the end of the third period.
Both teams there traded shots and engaged in a seesaw battle for the lead before taking control of the game in the final three minutes.
Former SWU player Merbien Dedace and ex-USPF guard Keith Virtucio topscored for the Dribblers as they scored 19 points, respectively, and former UV player Alwin Aguirre added 10 for the victors. Veloso scored 20 points, Calltek’s Christian Judilla added 13 and Accenture’s Archie Batua finished with 11 for the E-League All-Stars.
Meanwhile, Batua was crowned Hoop King after his 14-11 victory over Sed Julian of Calltek in the Finals.
Batua earlier defeated Giovanni Taok of Wipro, 14-8, in the semifinal round while Julian got a free ride when his semis opponent Ronald Canoy forfeited the game.
Before they made it to the semifinal round, Batua, Taok, Julian and Canoy underwent an elimination round playing against representatives of the other teams.
The 2-Ball title on the other hand went to Executive Boutique Lycans’ Rex Barrientos and Gestoni Santos after scoring a total of 55 points; the Skills Challenge title went to John Alexon Loon of Eperformax who defeated Joselito Aranda of Stream in the tie breaker game by four seconds.
Loon logged a time of 34 seconds while Aranda finished the challenge at 38 seconds.
Both players had their best time at 31 seconds that forged the tie break game.
While this year’s 3-Point King is Argiel Fernandez of 1&1 Marauders who scored a total of 17 points.
