CEC drops Tallo-A A +A

THE Cebu Eastern College Dragons are parting ways with team consultant Mark Tallo.
“The CEC Board decided to end the service of coach Tallo starting today (yesterday).
He is no longer part of our team as consultant. This decision is the result of our investigation with regards to the alleged hitting and abuse he has done to our players,” Jeff Go, a member of the CEC Board of Trustees, told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
According to Go, the Dragons’ benefactor and shipping magnate Chester Cokaliong is now taking over the basketball program and ordered the players to return to the CEC dormitory.
“Chester was very mad. He took over our program and ordered our players to return to our dormitory. Eleven of our players are currently living at Tallo’s residence which he offered, to minimize our expenses, when we accepted him as our team consultant,” Go added.
Last Sept. 5, a supporter of CEC complained to Sun.Star Cebu accusing Tallo of hitting one of their players Bob Pagalan, when the latter entered the court during a heated action inside the court.
Go ordered an investigation.
Go also requested Cesafi commissioner Felix Tuikinhoy Jr. to invalidate the ID that was issued to Tallo and issue them a new one, which will be given to the team’s new assistant coach.
“I requested Commissioner Tiukinhoy to cancel Tallo’s ID. He is no longer allowed by the school to continue as a consultant. And in return I asked from Tiukinhoy a new ID, which will be issued to our new assistant coach, Jojo Romarate. Chester ordered his inclusion in the team since we are now in a very crucial stage,” Go stressed.
Romarate, who is also coaching the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology, a non-Cesafi member school, had coached Cokaliong’s team in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba).
He also took over Tallo’s position as the camp director of Sunsport Basketball Training Camp.
Romarate was a protégé and a high school player of Tallo, before their liaison went sour.
