ALJOHN Armamento couldn’t do anything but watch from a distance as his team was being crushed by tertiary division force University of San Carlos (USC) last Thursday after he was sent out with a red card. But in their rematch yesterday, the talented midfielder turned from zero to hero scoring the lone goal of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) for an upset 1-0 victory over former tertiary division Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) football tournament leaders USC at the Cebu City Sports Center pitch.
USPF found itseld in the same precarious situation in their 4-0 loss to USC last week.
Lopito Tumulak was slapped with a red card after getting his second yellow in the 81st minute.
Two minutes after, Armamento struck and hit his target for the winning goal.
There is a sudden shift in leadership in the tight tertiary division race with USC, sliding down to third place after University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) and University of Cebu won their respective matches yesterday.
USJ-R edged out University of the Visayas, 1-0, with a goal by Agapito Baclaan in the 62nd minute.
UC, on the other, thrashed winless Don Bosco College (DBC), 4-0.
Aquillo Enopia scored in the 29th and 52nd minutes, Mole Neri hit the back of the net in the 42nd and Christian Juezan scored in the 70th.
USJ-R is now at the top of the division with 14 points, UC is at second place with 13 points. USC also has 13 points, but is rated third because they are down to two goals on goal differential. UV is still at fourth with six points, while USPF also has six, but is down by four goals on goal differential.
The Cesafi games will resume on Sunday, when USPF takes on Don Bosco Technology Center and USC faces Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in the secondary division.
