Skimboarding champ airs gripes vs. Talisay officials-A A +A

A CHAMPION skimboarder accused officials of the Talisay City Government of being unsupportive of his bid to participate in a prestigious tournament in the United States next month.
Arjun Jimenez, a multi-awarded skimboarder, revealed to reporters yesterday that he was disappointed since he was not only given a small amount supposedly for his participation abroad, but he was also rudely treated by one of the secretaries of City Mayor Johnny de los Reyes.
Jimenez claimed that Angel Zamora, one of the city mayor’s aides, promised that the mayor will support his bid for the Balboa Oktoberfest Skimboarding Championships in Newport Beach, California.
But they were surprised to hear from Zamora that the financial aid she promised them was given to someone else.
To make things worse, Zamora allegedly rudely told them that the city will only “offer prayers and support” for Jimenez.
But Zamora denied Jimenez’s allegation, adding that it was still up to the mayor how much money he would donate for the skimboarder’s cause. She also denied making rude remarks against Jimenez.
Jimenez said that after qualifying for the skimboarding championships in California, he immediately sought financial support from other groups. One of those he approached was the Talisay City Government.
Jimenez is a resident of Barangay Poblacion in Talisay City.
He approached Zamora after he was assured by her that the city mayor was willing to provide money for the competition. He also asked De los Reyes in his letter for an endorsement from him for his visa application.
He was eventually given a letter from the city mayor that he can present to the US Embassy in Manila. He was given the go signal from the embassy.
But he was surprised that upon returning home, he found that what was assured to him did not materialize.
The City gave him P10,000, but the amount is too small.
Zamora, however, denied that she rudely treated Jimenez. Instead, she said it was Jimenez who was rude to her.
She said she had scheduled Jimenez for an appointment with the city mayor, but he never came.
Zamora said that while she was attending a seminar with Cebu’s mayors, Jimenez continued to call and text her.
She also denied that she assured Jimenez will be given an amount by the city mayor.
Zamora said that aside from Jimenez, a lot of people are seeking financial aid from the mayor.
Jimenez is a multi-awarded skimboarder, earning accolades in different countries such as in Taiwan and Malaysia.
