UC chases USC for 2nd spot-A A +A
Friday, September 27, 2013
THE University of Cebu (UC) will try to boost its quest for a finals spot, while hoping for some help from Don Bosco College in the resumption of the football matches of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. at the Cebu City Sports Center.
UC, the 2011 champions, will be facing fourth-ranked University of the Visayas (UV) at 1 p.m. today, while defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) will take on the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF).
Former champion and last year’s runner-up University of San Carlos (USC) will face Don Bosco College (DBC) at 3 p.m.
In the high school matches, DBC will take on USJ-R while favorites Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu will face USPF.
In the college division, UC is running third with 13 points, just a win behind second-ranked USC, which has 16 points. USJ-R, who holds the record for most Cesafi football titles, leads the race with 17 points.
A win by UC today and an unlikely loss by USC will put the two squads level at 16 points, making their Oct. 2 match a clash for the second finals seat. However, USC is expected to duplicate its 7-0 win over DBC in the first round of matches today.
Only the top two teams after the double-round robin eliminations will make it to the finals, while the No. 3 and No. 4 teams will play each other for the third place trophy.
