IN cycling, they call it the “Race of Truth.” One cyclist racing against the wind, the terrain of the road without any help from any teammates. A race that hurts your legs, literally.
More than 70 of the amateur cyclists in Cebu will converge today in the northern town of Sogod, Cebu, in the hope of being crowned Cebu’s best time trialist as they vie in the Flores Team Time Trial Cup. It is a 16-kilometer time trial that starts and ends at Km. 47, with a turnaround at Km. 56 along the smooth, quiet and picturesque roads of Catmon.
The current course record in the 16-km route is 23:07 minutes. Some racers hoping to chase the course record are Jun Omero, Raldy Vios, John Gayatin, Jong Sepulveda, Bobby Castañeda, Tidoy Milan, Bogart dela Rosa, Crispin Solon, Lyndel Caraquel, Toto Iral, Daryl Caballes and Boy Pagnanawon.
Young female cyclist Ana Patricia Maximo, 14, of Ridley-Token and SHS-Hijas and Italian junior rider Christian Buzzatto are also entered in the event.
Organized by Cebu Cycling, Miguel Flores and Richard Clarke with the support of Cebu MultiSport, the race is dedicated to all those suffered from cancer, including the father of Miguel, the late Gen. Danilo Flores.
Proceeds of the event will be turned over to the pediatric ward of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. PR
