Eperformax Reds surprise Aegis in E-League semifinals-A A +A

FOURTH seed Eperformax Reds scored an upset over top seed Aegis Vipers in the Northern Conference semifinals of the 2013 CSCC E-League Basketball tournament at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym last Sunday.
The Reds kept the Vipers at bay after outscoring Aegis, 25-19, in the second quarter on its way to an 80-76 win in overtime. The Reds now lead the best-of-three series.
Unlike Aegis, second-seed and defending champion Stream Ingenyouity scored an emphatic 71-54 win over no.3 Calltek Trojans in the other Northern Conference semifinals, while no.2 seed Lexmark Stallions used a 17-7 blitz in the fourth quarter to beat Wipro Tigers, 64-56, in the Southern Conference semifinal series.
Trailing 16-17 at the end of the first quarter, Eperformax caught the defense of Aegis napping and turned the tide around by taking a 41-36 lead at the half.
The Reds managed to keep the slim lead before Aegis forced overtime as the score settled at 70-all at the end of the regulation period. However, Aegis’s efforts fell short and and it yielded the series opener to the hungrier Reds.
Romel Lawas scored the game-high 21 points, Patrick Ybañez added 14, Robert Gilo had 13 and Anthony Agua contributed 10 points for Eperformax. Rodolfo Enterina III topscored for Aegis with 19 points, Ryan Veloso added 16 and Frederic Yvalle finished with 11.
Stream, on the other hand, opened the game by outscoring Calltek 21-10 and capped it with a 20-13 blast with Joselito Aranda and Ivan dela Torre scoring 17 points each and Angelo Lucero contributing 16.
Down 19-15 in the opening quarter, Lexmark labored in the next two quarters for the win.
Jake Pia scored 16 points, Niel Tiempo added 14, Siegfred Ofonda made 11 and Franco Cipriano finished with 10 for Lexmark.
