ARTHUR Craig “Iggy” Pantino finally captured a title after routing fellow Filipino Benjamin Jacob Martin, 6-3, 6-1 in the second circuit of the LTAT U14 Thailand Circuit Series in Bangkok, Thailand.
Pantino, ranked No. 12 in the country, earned his first international title by beating the No. 5 ranked Martin. It was also a sweet redemption for the University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department student who lost to Nutthasith Kunsuwan, 4-6, 6-3, 2-6, in the first circuit last week.
“We are very happy that Iggy was finally able to win the title. He played his best because he really wanted to win his first Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) title, especially after failing in his first attempt in the first circuit,” said Iggy’s father Jun.
Jun added that they are overwhelmed with the feat since it means the sacrifices of their son have paid off.
In the tournament, Pantino advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Chimoye Sirathee, 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16. He then defeated Promsut Kittinut, 7-6 (5), 6-0 in the quarterfinals and beat Chareonphon Yutthana, 2-6, 6-2,6-4 to arrange a finals showdown against Martin.
Pantino will be flying back to the country for a short break but will be back to play in the third and fourth circuit of the the LTAT U14 Thailand Circuit Series.
