SOUTHWESTERN University Lady Cobras are ready to assert their dominance as they face the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. women’s volleyball finals at the Aznar Coliseum.
This season, CDU has surprised the field by making the finals for the first time.
However, for this team made up of former players of Pajo National High School and
coached by Fr. Rolando Manayon, winning is not new to them.
The team is led by skipper Athena Sucalit, Danica Molinas and Flora Mae Colosco.
“Though this is the first time that CDU played in the finals, dili sila kakompyansa-an because they are a solid team and the players are former Palarong Pambansa campaigners,” said SWU head coach Jordan Paca.
Paca said he hopes that his team will play in top condition as they will be playing a a best-of-three finals series.
SWU won a grand slam before the University of San Carlos (USC) won the title in 2012. USC failed to make the semifinals this year.
“I have all the confidence that my team can deliver,” said Paca.
The battle for third will be between the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF)
The girl’s best-of-three finals will be between SWU and USC. They will be playing in the game opener tonight before the college game.
USJ-R, last year’s champion, will face Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu for third place.
The men’s collegiate finals between USJ-R and USPF and the boys’ high school finals between USC and USJ-R will be tomorrow night at the USJR-Basak Campus.
