NORTHERN Conference top seed Aegis Vipers completed their comeback after blowing out Epeformax Reds, 82-65, in the deciding Game 3 of the semifinal series to set up a Conference Finals showdown with defending champions Stream Ingenyouity in the 2013 CSCC E-League at the City Sports Club Cebu gym last Sunday.
It took Aegis the final period to break the game wide open.
After building a slim margin after the first period, 17-14, Aegis managed to stay on top, 40-35, after the first half.
The Reds tried to find the right combination but the Vipers proved steadier and ripped the game with a 22-10 blitz in the fourth to secure the second Conference finals slot.
Ryan Veloso barely missed a double-double after he scored the game-high 23 points to go along with his nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Teammates Dean Escalon, James Navaja and Rodolfo Enterina III cominbed for 39 points.
Robert Gilo and Romel Lawas topscored for the losing Reds with 19 points each and Patrick Ybanez contributed 10 points.
Sykes Pioneers lived to play for the deciding match after beating Southern Conference no.1 Accenture Sharks, 83-74, in Game 2 of their semifinal series.
Sykes waylaid the unsuspecting Sharks in the opening period 18-4 and did enough
damages in the next three quarters to even the series.
Gerald Galarido scored 24 points, Frederick Montelibano added 18, Rey Lepardo added 13 and Vernie Dioty finished with 12. Archie Batua paced Accenture with 19 points, Jasper Loreto contributed 18 points, while Jonathan Abesia and Ryan Llanos had 13 points each for the losing squad.
Meanwhile, Lexmark Stallions were simply too much for the Wipro Tigers as they swept the series after a 67-59 win in Game 2 to advance to the Southern Conference Finals.
However, the Stallions experienced some scare before settling at the lead for good.
Leading 35-25 after two quarters, Lexmark suddenly found its offense struggling, while Wipro dropped a 23-10 blast to take the lead 48-45 entering the final period.
However, the Stallions regained their composure and dropped a counter 22-11 blitz in the final quarter to move to the next round against the winner of the Accenture-Sykes series.
Franco Cipriano was the top producer for Lexmark as he scored the game-high 18 points on top of 15 rebounds, three assists and one block.
