Cesafi champs gear up for war-A A +A

THE Cesafi 2013 champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers and its runners-up the Southwestern University Cobras and the University of San Carlos Warriors are now gearing up for their next assignments—the 2013 Philippine Collegiate Champions League’s (PCCL) Southern Island Championship in Ormoc City.
Cesafi was given three slots into the Sweet 16, but unlike last year when the champions were automatic finalists in the Southern Islands Finals, this year, UV had to play one game.
And most likely, they will be playing against the dangerous USC Warriors who will also be facing the Visayas Regional Conference Champions.
If the current schedule will not be changed, USC will play the Visayas champions on Nov. 19 and the winner will play UV the next day.
The Cobras, meanwhile, will be playing against the winners of the two Mindanao qualifiers also on the 20th.
If both teams will pull through, their scheduled match-up will be on Nov. 21.
The Southern Islands champions will get a slot to the Final Four along with the UAAP champions, NCAA titlists and the Luzon/Metro Manila champions.
UV has been a regular competitor in the annual competition for basketball supremacy for eight straight years since it started in 2002.
Part of the Lancers’ preparation includes an exhibition match against the PBA Legends in Ormoc City on Oct. 12, and the week-long Uni-Games in Bacolod City on Oct. 22-28 among others.
The PCCL qualifying tournaments will kick off on Oct. 25 with the Mindanao Regional Conference eliminations.
