Talisay hosts drag race-A A +A

TALISAY City Mayor Johnny V. De Los Reyes will trade his cowboy get up for a racing helmet and will be competing in a race named after him, the 1st Mayor JVR Motorcycle Drag race and Motor show competition at the South Reclamation Properties road in front of Talisay City Hall this Sunday.
“I would join this race. I have been living on the fast lanes. I have raced motorbikes that even now I tend to forget that I am driving a car. My sons got their love for speed from me,” de los Reyes said during the press conference at the Talisay City Hall yesterday.
De los Reyes admitted he owned a few racing bikes, including the one he intended to race – a 250cc ninja type contraption.
Race organizer Bryan Renejane of Blakeley’s Motocare, instead offered the mayor a 150cc bike since there is no 250cc category in the race.
John Venth de los Reyes, the mayor’s youngest son and the race director will put up a special category for JVR.
Some 500-meter stretch from Talisay City Hall will be closed to traffic from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 for this race.
The race covers a 250-meter stretch with an addition 50 meters for braking.
We are doing this to provide proper venue for riders to race. We are trying to
discourage street racing which is very dangerous,” Renejane said.
“We are trying to give speed racers a chance to contribute to the festivities of Talisay,” delos Reyes said.
