AFTER two more fights at 108 pounds, International Boxing Federation (IBF) light flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero wants to move up to flyweight and gun for a second division world title.
Even though Casimero doesn’t have any problems making the 108-pound limit, he is looking for a more lucrative fight at the stacked flyweight division, and also a chance at getting back at a notorious name to Filipino boxing fans—Juan Francisco Estrada.
“Because we want to retaliate,” the 23-year-old Omega Boxing Gym star told Sun.Star Cebu.
Casimero is slated to defend his IBF light flyweight belt against IBF No. 4 Felipe Salguero this Saturday night at the Makati Coliseum in Makati City.
He said that he will be defending his crown one more time before moving up in weight.
The 23-year-old Estrada made a name for himself in the world boxing scene after giving undefeated Nicaraguan star Roman Gonzalez in a tough fight last year. He became one of the best in the division after dethroning Filipino-Hawaiian Brian Viloria to become the World Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association flyweight champion. He defended his double world titles with a unanimous decision over erstwhile unbeaten Filipino prospect Milan Melindo, also regarded as one of the best in the division.
