Laguna wins Palaro hosting bid-A A +A

YESTERDAY, the Department of Education regional directors voted to give the 2014 Palarong Pambansa hosting rights to Laguna.
The Palarong Pambansa venue has been settled but it’s a long way before Region 7 will come up with a lineup.
The Central Visayas was the center of the massive earthquake last Oct. 15 and because of this, classes and training had stopped.
With the suspension of classes and three sporting meets, the student athletes will have a busy last quarter.
Now that the earth is slowly stabilizing, the athletes will have a busy last quarter because not only do they need to make up for the suspended classes but double their effort in training.
“We need to complete 205 days of classes. Since it has been suspended, we need to make up for it with Saturday classes,” said DepEd Cebu City division sports coordinator Zenaida Gocotano.
Gocotano said the student-athletes' time will be properly managed so they could spend time for both tasks.
The Cebu City Olympics will continue as scheduled on Nov. 6-10.
The Milo Little Olympics, scheduled today, was moved to Nov. 29.
The regional meet, the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa), which is scheduled on Dec. 1, might be moved.
Regional Director Carmelita Dulangon will be calling for a meeting to discuss this.
The winners in the Cebu City Olympics will represent the city in the Cviraa.
Should the regional push through, it will start just when the Milo Little Olympics ends.
Milo organizer Ricky Ballesteros said that instead of a setback, this will instead help the athletes.
“Having continuous tournaments is like training for them. These athletes will be more
prepared for the Palarong Pambansa,” said Ballesteros.
Region 7 finally wrested third overall title in the Palaro this year after years of trying.
