CESAR Kristofer Salimbangon booked a finals seat early in the Philippine Sports Commission-Philta Visayas Junior Tennis Championships after a hard-earned three-set victory in yesterday’s semifinals at the Consolacion Tennis Court.
Salimbangon needed three sets before beating James Abad, 6-1, 4-6, 10-3, to earn a seat to the finals against a still to be determined foe.
He will also be seeing action in the 10-Under unisex semifinals after beating Noelle Vanasse Wilbert, 6-0, 6-0. He will face Eric Longakit next. Longakit defeated Thomas Benardo, 6-2, 6-2, to advance.
Jace Unto of Minglanilla’s Mary Help of Christians School defeated John David Velez, 6-4, 7-5, in less than an hour, to advance to the Boys 12 semifinals. He will face Vince Alforque, who defeated Harland Rogan, 7-5, 6-4.
Unto, however, failed to book a semis seat in the Boys 14 division after losing to Francis Gener Lambayan, 6-1, 6-3. Lambayan booked two semis tickets.
He will take on Heart Sotto in the Boys 14 semis and Manuel Balce in the Boys 16.
Lambayan defeated Abad, 6-1, 6-0, in the Boys 16 quarterfinals.
The other semifinalist in the Boys 14 division is Manuel Balce, who won against Mark Pradel, 7-5, 6-0.
In the Boys 16 division, Jan Godfrey Seno blanked Gerwhin Dwight Labiste, 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the semifinals.
In the Boys 18, moving to the semifinals are Joshua Kinaadman, Mikel Lauron and Clyde Bienes.
