THE Sugbutriathlon’s coaches Jesse Arriola and Benjoe Gimenez made a public apology following the results mishap of the Hunat Sugbo Triathlon Goes to Oslob last Oct. 6, where they failed to issue accurate results right away.
This was their response after Cebu Parklane International Hotel, the event’s organizer, through general manager Cenelyn Manguilimotan, sent them a letter complaining that the competitive triathletes experienced inconvenience after Sugbutri failed to provide the time results right after the race and even the accurate winners.
“In behalf of Sugbutriathlon, we would like to ask for a sincere apology to the triathlon community especially to Parklane for the minor glitch in the issuance of the results,” said Gimenez.
Gimenez added that during the race, they encountered a minor technical problem but it was not the main reason they weren’t able to provide a result right away.
They, however, refused to elaborate on what caused the glitch and opted to just settle the matter with Parklane.
Arriola added that they asked Allan Ting, a member of Parklane’s Board of Directors if they can arrange a meeting to discuss the issue. Arriola said he was told via text message that Ting will inform their management committee about a meeting with them.
“We really want to discuss this matter with them and as of now, we are waiting for their response,” said Arriola.
“We were told that they will be the one to set a meeting with us. We will just wait.
We really want to talk to them about this matter and settle this,” said Arriola.
Gimenez said they have learned a lot from this experience and will take it as a challenge to improve their services to provide the triathlon community with the best triathlon experience.
“We learned a lot from this experience especially about the importance of communication in crucial situations,” said Gimenez.
Gimenez said that this is one of the biggest trials they have encountered in several years of experience in officiating a triathlon race and the experience will help them provide better Sugbutriathlon races.
According to Gimenez, they already have several triathlon events lined up for the year 2014, starting off with the Tri Team Championship series set in the first quarter of 2014.
Sugbutriathlon is also instrumental in the growth of triathlon in Visayas and Mindanao. Aside from Triathlon Association of the Philippines (Trap) executive director Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez, it has organized small local races to help revive the popularity of the sport.
