ORGANIZERS of the Cebu City Invitational Cup have decided to donate part of the proceeds of the basketball event for the survivors of the Bohol earthquake.
During a meeting yesterday, the event organizers - Enya Ideals and the Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists (CFBJ) pledged to donate P100,000 to the Cebu Newspaper Workers Cooperative (Newscoop) for its fund-raising campaign for the victims of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that left massive damage in Bohol.
The Cebu Newscoop is the beneficiary of the three-day tournament that will feature PBA clubs Alaska Aces, Barako Bulls Energy Cola and GlobalPort Batang Pier against Tagum City’s CM Farm on Nov. 7-9.
CFBJ president Elias Baquero, who is also the chairman of the board of the Cebu Newscoop, welcomed the development.
CFBJ is trying to raise funds for its programs that concerns the welfare of all beat reporters, photographers and cameramen in Cebu.
Meanwhile, Barako Bull now has a Cebuano player in its line-up.
The PBA Commissioner’s Office approved the trade between Barangay Ginebra’s reserved guard Robert Labagala for Barako Bull’s Emmanuel Monfort.
Labagala is a former member of the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers before suiting up for the University of the East Red Warriors in the UAAP. He is hoping to get a new lease of life after he was buried deep into the rotation of the star-studded Ginebra backcourt that has LA Tenorio, Jayjay Helterbrand and Josh Urbiztondo.
Aside from the deal, Barako Bull is reportedly trying to trade its fourth and fifth picks in the coming PBA Rookie Draft to Ginebra and Petron Blaze Boosters respectively.
The Energy Cola wanted former Gilas Pilipinas mainstay Dylan Ababou for its no.4 pick overall and is eyeing Maggi Sison and Mark Isip from Petron for its no.5 pick.
GlobalPort, which owns the No.6 pick is eyeing potential blue chip players Terrence Romeo, RR Garcia, Alex Nuyles, James Forrester, and Jeric Teng from the draft.
