RUNNERS had quite an experience in the unique Conju Run, a night race that kicked off at 6:30 p.m. last Oct. 31 at the Filinvest grounds at the South Road Properties.
With zombies and ghosts along the race route ready to “eat you alive” and a terrain that goes off-road, runners had to forego breaking their personal records and concentrate on finishing the race in one piece. But it was worth every kilometer of it.
That was what 14-year old junior cyclist Ana Patricia “Icamax” of Santini and Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus had in mind when she completed the race in 16:19 minutes, good enough to grab first place in the 3K women’s category.
“The tips that coach Bert Banzon gave me helped me hurdle the off-road terrain”, said the Philippine National Games Cycling double medallist.
She overtook Edefe Flores midway into the race and Flores eventually settled for second place with a time of 16:48. Holly Andrea Rodriguez got third place in 23:33).
Hosted by architects Miguel Flores and Michael Sanchez, the 3K Men category was lorded by another 14-year-old junior cyclist, Italian Christian Buttazo, who finished it in 15:46. He was followed by Kelvin Yu (20:25) and Peter Padayhag (20:45).
Virginia Parahinog dominated the 5K women’s division with a time of 22:15, beating Hazel Busa who came second at 26:28. Lisa Kalenkiewilz got third place in 29:21.
The men’s division was topped by Ray Omnas (18:11), who outlasted the challenge of placer Agapito Baclaan (19:10), and Gerson Casinillo (19:19).
Michel Largo won the men’s 10L in 37:08 over Refuela Tan (39:20) and Jose Baguio (43:15).
The winners in the women’s 10K are Christy Sevilleno (50:13), Odiza Abellana (51:09) and Daisy Batac (58:15). (PR)
