Undefeated Sevillano tops Strike Kiddies-A A +A

AS expected Cebu’s top kiddies player Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano pocketed the 4 Central Squares organized 1st Strike Kiddies Chess Championship after finishing undefeated in seven rounds at the Robinsons Cybergate Events Center last Saturday.
In the Open division yesterday, NM Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Edsel Montoya and Venancio Loyola are the only players undefeated in a field of 86 after four rounds.
Sevillano, the first player to become a national champion in succession in the Kiddies and Juniors divisions of the Shell National Youth Active Chess tournament, scored 6.5 points to cop the P3,000 top prize and the championship trophy.
The lone speck of his stellar run in the 88-field competition was a draw with Lalia Camel Nadera, his teammate at the University of San Carlos Basic Education Department, in the final round.
Nadera, Edsel Vosotros, James Andrew Balbona and Vic Glysen Derotas all finished with 6.0 points to share the second to fifth places and go home with P1,000 each in the tournament, which was organized by the CA44 group of Engr. Edilberto Velarde and Marc Dion Alunan.
Nadera and Derotas however, got an additional P250 each as they shared the top Female performer award in the Kiddies division.
Those who finished in the top 16 are Jeffu Durog and Jeremy Pepito, who had 5.5 points each, and Marc Bryan Villarojo, Adrian Basil Basilgo, Rex Sumalinog, Ryan Pacres, Miguel Enrico Tequillo, Chris Aldritz Pondoyo, Rejel Clyd Perandos, Marlon Panolin and John Lester Belano, who all got 5.0 points.
In the Open division, Enriquez was aiming to keep his lead as was set to take on Montoya, while Loyola was to face top junior player Felix Shaun Balbona in Round 5 that was held at press time yesterday. Balbona is half a point behind the leaders.
Aside from Balbona, other players who were half a point behind the leaders were Romel Ganzon, Junaio Segismar, Bryll John Arellano, Ramil Wadim and Ronald Ganzon were also half a point behind the leaders and Ariel Joseph Abellana.
