VERGILIO SILVANO lost to International Boxing Federation (IBF) mini-flyweight champion Katsunari Takayama last Tuesday night at the Bodymaker Coliseum in Osaka, Japan.
The 29-year-old Takayama outclassed Silvano, the No. 6 rated IBF mini-flyweight, and won by scores of 118-110, 118-110 and 120-108.
Takayama improved to 26-6 with 10 knockouts and has won two straight fights. The 23-year-old Silvano, on the other hand, dropped to 17-3-1 with 10 knockouts.
Just days after the boxing event in Japan, another Filipino warrior is seeing action in “The Land of The Rising Sun.”
PHL light flyweight champion Jerson Mancio will take on 20-year-old phenomenon Naoya Inoue for the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) light flyweight belt this Friday in Tokyo.
The 26-year-old Mancio, a mainstay at the ALA Gym, is looking for his first win in Japan. He hasn’t had much success there with back-to-back losses to current WBA mini-flyweight king Ryo Miyazaki and journeyman Junichi Ebisuoka.
