PRINCE Joey Lee and Lovely Andrin topped the men’s and women’s 12K divisions of the Alphan’s Run II, a run for the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda, yesterday at the Ayala Terraces of Cebu.
Lee, of the University of Cebu (UC) athletics team, captured the men’s title after crossing the finish line in 41:34:30 to beat seasoned ultra-runner Noel Tillor (42:22:49) to secure the second spot and Paul James Zafico (43:07:82) to settle for third.
Lee, who has won three silver medals in the recent Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), eyes to improve his performance in 2014 and dominate more local tournaments as he prepares himself for international races.
Andrin, 14, crossed the finish line after 53 minutes to win the women’s title followed by Keisha Mae Delechos in 53:19:40 to take second place and Andrin’s sister Jhean with 55:52:44 for third place.
Lovely uses the weekend runs as a preparation for multi-event meets she is going to join. She hopes to win gold medals in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association set in February next year.
Last year, she won gold medals in the 800-meter, 1.5K and 3K runs. She also hopes to improve her bronze medal finish in the 1.5K run in the Palarong Pambansa.
“Joining local races helps a lot with her training. We hope that in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa, she will win gold medals in all of her events,” said trainer Alex Loloy.
In the 6K distance, Michael Largo captured the men’s title after clocking 20:11:42 followed by John Daryll Manus with 20:22:04 and Christian Lim with 22:53:02.
Cherry Andrin took the women’s title with a time of 25:01:07 followed by Rizza Bawsin wth 25:38 for second and Irish Delechos with 22:56:99 for third.
John Cliff Debulosan and Regine Piezas took the men’s and women’s titles in the 3K category division.
