UNIVERSITY of Cebu’s (UC) superior stamina outlasted a depleted KTEC Trading side with a second half push for a 4-2 victory in the Men’s Open division of the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field.

It was as close as it could get in the first half with both teams tied at 2-2 at halftime. But an African laden UC side somehow had more gas in the tank and aggressively attacked a tired KTEC Trading defense to make it a one-sided match.

Striker Matias Modey drew first blood and put UC up ahead in the 28th minute. But just nine minutes after, Valentine Ragasajo scored the equalizer.

Rodney Gadionco gave KTEC Trading the lead with a goal in the 42nd minute. However, the lead was short-lived with Tekene Ayibapriye scoring his only goal in the match in the 44th minute.

The second half was a different story, KTEC Trading somehow looked exhausted and Oyenemi Oputa capitalized on it and gave UC the lead with a goal in the 55th just outside the box.

Modey then dazzled the KTEC Trading defenders with his impressive ball handling skills before an accurate pass that was struck by Oputa in the 58th minute.

Modey once again threaded the defense and hit the back of net in the 90th minute for the final goal of the match.

Samba FC logged an easy victory with a 3-0 default over University of San Jose-Recoletos Alumni in the other Men’s Open match.

Last year’s Under-23 runner-up University of San Carlos finally found its groove and bounced back from a lost last week with a 2-0 win over Continental AFS.

Januarius Paglinawan hit the first goal in the 41st minute. It was followed up with another goal by Yves Caballero in the 62nd minute.

Leylam FC defeated Subangdaku FC, 1-0, in the other Under-23 match. Rene Sanchez scored the lone goal in the 66th minute.

Queen City United (QCU) edged out Erco, 2-1; while KN Ferraren squeaked past JEH United, 2-1, in the 38-and-Above division.

In the Inter Company division, Leylam FC settled to a scoreless draw with T-United; San Miguel beat Arkiteks United, 1-0; and Erco FC crushed Kalayaan Engineering, 3-0.

Accenture walked away with a one-sided 6-1 victory over Eperformax; Convergys settled to a 1-1 deadlock with Lexmark; X Libris ended up with a scoreless draw with Innodata; and Stream FC didn’t break a sweat after a 3-0 default win over NCR in the BPO Men’s category.

In the BPO Ladies division, guest team USC won against Convergys, 2-0; while Accenture defeated NCR, 2-0.

Mad FC defeated Sais FC in the only Under-11 match of the day.
